Cultivar name: SJC7120-1

Tree characteristics: hardy, weak vigor, fruit distributed all over tree, productive; leaves: cordate, mainly double serrate, underside very hairy, apex acuminate to cuspidate, base obtuse to slightly cordate, length : width ratio 1.47, petioles 1.8 to 3 cm long, hairy, with small stipules when young.
Flower characteristics:
Fruit characteristics: attractive, size varies from medium to large depending on the year (yearly averages vary from 140 to 190 g), round-conic to oblate-conic; basin: medium width and depth, wrinkled; calyx: mostly open but sometimes almost closed, lobes persistent and recurved, calyx tube is urn-shaped, stamens are in median position; cavity: acute to acuminate, deep, medium width, russeted; stem: variable, from very short to medium length, small to large diameter; core: large, open, in median position, with clasping core lines; skin: medium thickness, with a heavy bloom, 30-40 % blushed orange-red with some streaking over green to greenish-yellow ground, lenticels are conspicuous mainly where the skin is red; flesh: juicy, firm, greenish-white, with a moderate amount of discoloration after cutting; flavor: pleasant, nicely tart with some sweetness; end use: good for fresh eating; ripens October 9 (Frelighsburg, QC).
Post Harvest, storage: after 2 months in cold room: overall quality of fruit is average to good; after 4.5 months in regular cold room: flesh is firm (pressure test: 5.42 kg), acidity is average (0.6392 %), soluble solids are high (13.4 %), juice is beige with a golden hue.
Other characteristics: Diseases and disorders: subject to scald, resistant to apple scab.
Adaptation & availability: Good for Quebec and Eastern and Central Canada. A limited number of budwood is available from the breeder after signing a non-propagation agreement (only to universities and research stations).
