Tree characteristics: hardy, upright-spreading, vigorous; leaves: elliptic to slightly obovate, double serrate, underside slightly hairy, apex cuspidate, base cuneate, length : width ratio 1.64, petioles 3.0 to 5.5 cm long with small stipules when young.
Flower characteristics:
Fruit characteristics: size varies from medium to large depending on the year (yearly averages vary from 120 to 182 g), mainly oblate but can be round-conic, lopsided 50 % of the time; basin: medium depth and width, no russet, regular (no ridges); calyx: open, lobes are persistent and mainly erect, calyx tube is conical, stamens are in basal position; cavity: obtuse to acute, shallow to medium depth, narrow to medium width, can be russeted with coarse to scaly russet; stem: variable, short to long, medium to very thick; core: very long, wide open, in median position, with clasping core lines; skin: medium thick, waxy, bright, medium red with darker red stripes over greenish-yellow ground, with heavy bloom, small to very large lenticels which can be prominent on some apples; flesh: juicy, firm, white, with no discoloration after cutting; flavor: pleasant, aromatic, nice blend of sugar and acid; end use: good for fresh eating; ripens September 22 (Frelighsburg, QC).
Post Harvest, storage: after 2.5 months in cold storage: fruit is firm but overall quality is average; after 5 months in regular cold room: fruit is firm (pressure test: 5.90 kg), acidity is high (0.7504 %), soluble solids are high (13.1 %), juice is beige.
Other characteristics: Diseases and disorders: susceptible to water core; fruit thinning will stabilize fruit size and productivity, susceptible to apple scab.
Adaptation & availability: Good for Quebec and Eastern and Central Canada. A limited number of budwood is available from the breeder after signing a non-propagation agreement (only to universities and research stations).
