The major characteristics of this
selection are the firmness, large fruit size and long shelf life at room temperature
(20°C)
- Description:
Late summer-fruiting selection.
Young shoots are densely covered with small violet prickles. New shoots are covered with
bloom wax and sparse hairs displaying an upright habit but with dropping tips. The leaves
are only moderately rough- surfaced between veins and are quite a dull fairly green in
color. The leaves have 5 leaflets on the lower two third of a shoot and 3 on the topmost
third. Flowering season on shoots from the previous year is late; flowers are medium size.
Fruit-bearing branches are of moderate length. Fruits are dull medium red in color, large,
fairly firm, longer than broad, moderately hairy and quite easily detachable from their
receptacle.
- Important
characteristics:
Less sweet that the other
selections but sugar content of the fruits is comparable to that of Festival and greater
than Boyne, Killarney and Nova varieties. Less firm than SJR944-2,
SJR942-7 and SJR942-5 but firmer and has better shelf life than
Boyne, Festival, Killarney and Nova varieties at 20°C.
