Behrouz Ehsani Moghaddam

 

Behrouz Ehsani Moghaddam obtained his B.Sc. with first honour in agricultural engineering in 1991 and M.Sc. in plant breeding in 1995, from Tehran University, Iran. From 1993 to 2000, he worked as a research scientist at Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization of Iran (AREEO) where he established a protocol to produce somatic embryos and whole plants from cell suspension culture of sugar beet.  He also worked on various techniques in plant cell culture such as protoplast, single cell and pollen culture. He was granted a Malaysian government scholarship to continue his post graduate work and in 2004 obtained a Ph.D. in plant biotechnology from Malaya University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During his Ph.D. he employed traditional and new techniques in cell biology and various tools such as electron (TEM and SEM), Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, and image analyzer to study cell behaviour of in vitro sugar beet plants. He is also experienced with histochemical studies of different tissues such as root and shoot, cycling cells and synchronization, chromosomal studies, mitotic activities, ultrastructural studies of cells, nuclear and micro organelle activities, and DNA and protein analysis. Presently, he is a post doctoral fellow at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada , Horticulture Research and Development Centre, Fruit Breeding and Physiology Laboratory, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu under the supervision of Dr. S. Khanizadeh, and is working on the relationship between antioxidant and disease resistance in strawberries and haploid plant production through pollen culture.
